Boheme Valentine

So, I’m currently watching season one of Blindspot. Have you guys seen it before? Totally wasn’t expecting to be this addicting and fast-paced! Make that, currently bingewatching. What are some of y’all’s favorite television shows? During the school semester I don’t really have a ton of time to watch, but on breaks and downtime, I’m all about some Netflix and couch time.
I’m super excited to share this look with you guys, especially since it’s been a while since I’ve posted. School has been kicking my butt having to commute to class 3x a week, and thennnnn there’s the fact that Blaine and I moved into a new house last weekend! Holy #adulting! (I am not an interior designer by any means either so any suggestions will be warmly welcomed!)

For this look, I wanted to make it as feminine and flowy as I possibly knew how. My dress is from Bella Bella boutique in Baton Rouge,LA and my boots are from Edge Boutique in Hammond,LA. I’m linking both of their instagrams! I actually got the hat from a girlfriend, but have seen similar ones at Marshall’s. As usual, I will link tons of similar options at the end of this post. I’m pretty sure that for Valentine’s Day I will be missing my handsome Valentine while in class. We don’t have any traditions, per-say but I love anything food-related! Trying new restaurants or eating out at favorite local spots. Plus, there’s always holiday sale candy the day after V-day, which is my absolute favvv! Do you guys do Valentine’s Day or Galentine’s Day? I’d love to know!

One last little tidbit for your Valentine’s Day festivities! I made these a lot through high school and college as cupcakes. But for Valentine’s Day, I switch it up to a heart-shaped pan. I’m not really a “make from scratch” kinda girl because I feel like when I bake from scratch it tastes different every time, even when I use the exact same ingredients and measurements. Using pre-made mixes, I know once I bake and ice, I’ll get some delicious strawberry-funfetti cupcakes! Orrrr, for those of y’all who like vanilla cake base better, switch up the icing/cake mixes, like I did below! What are your favorite Valentine’s Day treats??

Fat Tuesday to Fit Wednesday: Mardi Gras Style with SFT

Don’t mind me, I’m just cozied up over here eating all the king cake I can! Mardi Gras season is a very close second to Christmas time–the food, the fun, the celebration, you just can’t beat it! My most favorite Mardi Gras memories are running Church Point’s Mardi Gras with my lovies. It is incredibly hard to describe what exactly Courir de Mardi Gras is like without experiencing it for yourself. But check out this link that covers a few of the basics!
Church Point Courir de Mardi Gras 2016

Unfortunately, it’s cold and rainy on Mardi Gras more than it isn’t, so you’ll usually find me doing exactly as I’m pictured here: staying warm and dry with my cake and coffee.

For the SFT King Cake Challenge, I was asked to pick my favorite king cake recipe here in Baton Rouge. I set out on this journey with a determination only my taste buds were prepared to handle, lolz. After several suggestions and a couple of taste tests, my favorite is hands-down is the Bavarian cream king cake from Port Allen Bakery. Okay, so it’s not directly in Baton Rouge. But a little ride over the bridge is only painful at high traffic times, and I assure you–this little slice of cream-filled heaven is well worth the drive. They sell out super quickly every day, though, so I would recommend looking them up on Facebook and calling ahead for whatever you decide to order.

If you’re not feeling the drive, or just don’t want to commit to the calories, CC’s Coffee House offers a latte version of Louisiana’s most beloved sweet treat. Cinnamon, caramel, whipped cream…need I say more? If you don’t live near a CC’s, try Community Coffee’s option.  I prefer eating my king cake and drinking my king cake latte all in one sitting because it’s the little things in life, y’all!.

You can purchase SFT’s Mardi Gras long-sleeve tee here.

Now, after king cake season has come and gone, it’s time to tone it up! Do you guys have any fitness resolutions this year? SFT just launched some adorable Sweet Baton Rouge work out gear you can pick up here. But if you’re a DIY-er, grab any one of their Louisiana Love tees and make it your own! I love wearing anything plaid or purple, so I had a blast pairing this Mardi Gras Louisiana tee with some Lululemon compression leggings.
You could even pair this shirt with some skinnies and wedges or denim cut-offs and a purple bralette for summer time casual! This creative design also comes in a long sleeve version.

For the record, (if you didn’t already know) I love my Fitbit. I would recommend a sport-watch versus something like an Apple watch, especially when you know you’ll be using machines or weights and sweating. I know you can change Apple watch bands, but why not just opt for a less expensive and equally as functional option? I wear mine nearly every day and will gladly repurchase the next version! Also, I do not recommend wearing these shoes for running. They’re perfect for anything stationary, but opt for a pair like this if you plan on jogging!

Can’t wait to see and hear about how you guys celebrate Mardi Gras and your fitness goals for the year! Until next time, lovies. XoXo

Pretty Little Details

With women not fully dominating the workforce until the latter half of the 20th century, it’s crazy to see how much women’s office wear has changed over the years. (I’m currently picturing Mad Men to Dolly Parton in 9 to 5,  to Rachel at Ralph Lauren in Friends.) Jewel-tones are pretty much my favorite colors to wear, and honestly I feel like they look good on most everybody. And I don’t think I’ll ever own enough straight-leg pants. They’re such a good meet-in-the-middle of a more formal wide-leg trouser and a skinny pant. When I’m feeling like my #wootd is a little too bland, I love adding feminine touches to make it feel more me. Here, I added a pink statement necklace and although you can’t see it well, my pumps have the cutest cut-out close to the heel. These details are small but make me feel ultra femme and put-together.

I’m often asked if I wear my hair up so much because I’m too lazy to fix it or if it’s dirty. Sometimes that may be the case, but really I love the way I feel with my hair up and out of my face! It’s easier to focus, it keeps me from fidgeting and touching my hair too much during conversation, and overall I feel so much prettier with a prim & proper ‘do! I heartily encourage you to try something new with your hair! Part it differently, wear it half up, braid your tresses, or dress them up with a fun clip or headband even. The purpose of this is to find what works for you in different situations. I know, I know. You’re thinking, “I don’t ever style my hair differently because it’s fine the way it is and I like wearing it that way!” But think of it this way…how will you ever know if anything else suits you if you don’t at least try? I hope you find a fun style that makes you feel even more beautiful!

Per usual I linked everything at the bottom, y’all enjoy!

xoxo

Fear No Color: Brightening Up Your Work Wardrobe

Hey lovies!
I’ll be totally honest…today has been a Monday *shudders*. After all the holidays and hanging out, it’s been a kick in the butt to get back in the swing of things. To make this week a little easier jumping back into a 5-day work week, I thought brightening up my #wootd would do the trick! If you didn’t know already, I love mixing patterns and wearing bright colors, so it’s fun for me to be able to channel that into my workwear.
What are some fun ways you guys like to spice up your work wardrobe?

Fresh Faced

Skin care is something actually new to my weekly routine. In my late teens and early 20s, I didn’t have any of the skin issues I am currently experiencing. Now, however, with so many accessible and more importantly affordable options at my local Target, Walgreens, or nearby drugstore, pampering myself has become a regular thing! For our most recent girls’ night, Megan, Rachael, and myself got together and tried out six different masks–for all skin types. Keep reading for results!

MEGAN
Skin typenormal/combination
Masks used: Formula.10.0.6. Pores Be Pure Mud Mask & Acure Pore Refining Red Clay Mask
Thoughts: I didn’t want to use anything too strong because my skin for the most part is relatively clear. I wanted something to simply clean! The Pore Be Pure felt very tingling and drying on my face, but it only lasted a few minutes. I kept both masks on for about 20 minutes before washing. Overall, I prefer to the red clay mask because it felt like it cleaned my face without drying it out too badly. Note that their are little exfoliating beads in the red clay mask that make it easier to wash off as well.

RACHAEL
Skin typedry to normal
Masks used: e.l.f. Hydrating Bubble Mask, pixi Glow Mud Mask, L’oreal Pure Clay Mud Mask
ThoughtsI do suffer from time to time with dry patches and overall dry skin. I started with the e.l.f. bubble mask and the pixi glow mask. The bubble mask definitely worked, but I wanted a deeper clean, so I swapped it for the L’oreal mask! This one I preferred, and felt like I got a really intense pore cleaning from this one! I will also say the pixi mask made me skin feel SO smooth afterwards.

EMILY
Skin type: combination to oily/acne-prone
Masks used: L’oreal Pure Clay Mask & Studio 35 Beauty Nourishing Mask
Thoughts: Moisturizing masks are something I normally stray away from because I worry they would make my skin more oily, but with the weather being so all over the place here in Louisiana, I opted for one this time. I really loved the L’oreal clay mask, and I agree with Rachael’s thoughts on it. But what really surpised me was the nourishing coconut mask. I loved it! My skin felt so plump and moisturized after using it, and there was a visible difference in the texture! I loved it so much I used it on the other side of my face as well, and then made Meg & Rach use it after their masks to replenish their skin. It was a unanimous #1!

I found all of these masks at Target, but most brands are available at your local drugstore. Take the time to pamper yourself! Cheers to girls’ nights in!

Paint the Town Red: Holiday Cocktail

Let me start by saying I’m SO incredibly grateful for the absolute babes I have as friends! They took an entire Saturday afternoon to humor me and help me with this post. Couldn’t ask for better! Let me introduce you!

The *fabulous* Niki Kleinberger. (@nikikleinberger)

Favorite color: white or orange
Describe your style in one word: sporty or rockstar-inspired
Best known for: her laugh
Favorite thing about the holidays: “peppermint chocolate, holiday parties, and holiday lights all over the city!”

This girl does it all. When she’s not teaching fitness classes in New Orleans, she’s prepping for bikini fitness competitions. And no, Niki isn’t short for anything. How freaking rockstar is that?! Ugh!

The tall, leggy blonde: Michelle Lagarde

Favorite color: wine or garnet
Describe your style in one word: sexy-chic
Best known for: her idrc what anyone thinks about me attitude (it’s endearing)
Favorite thing about the holidays: “It’s a cheerful and happy time to spend with loved ones. Plus, it’s always a fun time when you mix family, friends, and alcohol! Haha!”

When Michelle isn’t working in Nola, she’s a full-time business student. She’s definitely got a handle on the balancing act of life as a college student (which is more than I can say for myself at times, lolz). [Michelle made these pictures of all of us laughing as natural as they could possibly be with her sarcastic wit.]

The bootylicious bombshell: Brittni Lagarde

Favorite color: blues or greens (cool colors)
Describe your style in one word: boho-romantic
Best known for: kicking butt at her job, and building that booty up at the gym (HAHA ily Brit)
Favorite thing about the holidays: “the cooler weather and the friendly, cheerful spirit everyone has”

Brit’s a walking ball of “I’ll try anything once; but if I don’t want to, I can definitely convince you to try it.” There’s so much life to be lived when you learn to say, “Sure! Why not?!”

And then there was me!

Favorite color: blue or purple
Describe your style in one word: trendy
Best known for: LOL my never-ending awful luck (I wish I was exaggerating!)
Favorite thing about the holidays: Christmas lights and decorations, holiday sweets, oversized sweaters with knit scarves, and gift-giving!

Before I link pieces, I want to point out how myself and each of the girls are sporting a different trend of holiday attire! Niki with her midi velvet dress, Michelle making a statement with great fit, Brittni with quintessential sparkle, and me with a bold pop of color. We also are all donning killer heels and different variations of winter-appropriate lips: flattering nude, dark purple/merlot, feminine berry, and of course holiday red! There truly are no rights or wrongs with fashion in my opinion. The holidays simply provide a wonderful excuse for you to be the best-dressed version of yourself! But by at least knowing what style or trend you’d prefer to wear to a particular event or party, it makes shopping that much easier. Now, go pour yourself a glass of champagne and cheers to great family, beautiful friends, and a promising new year!

2016 Holiday Girlfriend Gift Guide

2016giftguide

It’s the most wonderful time of the year, y’all! My group of girlfriends whom I’ve made great friends with here in Baton Rouge over the last year and half are throwing a white elephant gift exchange this upcoming weekend. I am so excited! Gifts, wine, girl-time, and no where to be first thing in the morning. If you aren’t familiar with white elephant, the best I can explain it is everyone buys a gift of a pre-established monetary amount, throws them in the middle of circle, and everyone who brought a gift gets a turn to pick! A very lackluster explanation, but throw in a glass of wine and some Christmas-themed-cake-balls and it becomes much more entertaining. Not to mention gifts can be stolen when it’s your turn to pick!

In preparation of those who procrastinate like myself and who also have girlfriend gift-exchanges coming up, I’ve compiled this fun list of gifts–all under $50!

NYX Liquid Suede Lip Cream Vault–$50
Okay, okay. So after taxes and possibly shipping if you’re ordering online, this gift ends up being closer to the $60 range than $50, but it’s so worth it! These lippies are some of the best drugstore lip colors and formula. For the lipstick lover(s) in your life, imagine the fight over this vault!

Marley Lilly Engraved Bar Necklace–$20
You really cannot beat this price for a pretty piece of personalized jewelry. Marley Lilly offers three different finishes to the necklace as well–gold, silver, and rose gold. Grab one as a gift and one for yourself. It’s a win-win!

Phone Mount–$15
I can personally say for anyone who drives or travels a ton for work this gift is a lifesaver. It’s so easy to put together, attach to your car windshield, and adjust. It’s a super practical gift that will get plenty of use!

Popsockets Phone Grip–$10
I have seen so many beauty vloggers on snapchat use these things! Another practical gift but mixed with some stylish flare. They’d make great stocking stuffers!

‘Good Vibes Only Travel’ Mug–$20
I actually received this gift from a bestie last Christmas and I love it entirely too much! It’s ceramic, so it keeps my coffee plenty hot on those days I’m running out of the door and am in and out of the car a thousand times. Plus, it’s a little reminder not to dwell on the minor mishaps that can happen throughout the day.

Elizabeth James Nirvana Rollerball Set–$28
I feel the price point is pretty great for this set. I’m a huge fan of these scents. There’s definitely one for everybody! Whether she’s a fan of fresh, warm, floral, or spicy–this set has them all!

Coffee Beanery Coffee Sampler–$26
If there exists a delicious, rich coffee that is not Community nor Starbucks it is Coffee Beanery. I haven’t heard anyone talk about this coffee, but it has been a favorite of mine since having it back home. For those gals who are coffee lovers, this sampler set is perfect and even comes with a travel mug!

Joe Boxer Women’s Bootie Slippers–$13
brb…buying multiples of these cute & comfy thangs! I feel like slippers are universally appreciated. What girl doesn’t want a pair of something she can eternally lounge in?! This brand is one of my favorites and I’ve even bought them as a Christmas extra for my mom!

Lilly and Laura Bracelet Stack–$36
Although the listed price is $36, Lilly and Laura does a deal where if you purchase 3 or more bracelets, you get them discounted at $10/piece instead of $12. I lovelovelove these! They’re beautiful and versatile!! They come in every color or design you could possibly think of and they’re amazing quality! They don’t pinch your skin or hairs on your arm because there’s no elastic–you just roll them onto your wrist.  They’re such a great treat for that girlfriend who’s always got an armparty happening!

Happy shopping and gift-stealing my gals! Haha! xoxo

Sephora #VIBRouge Review

vibrougehaul

Boy oh boy! Does this week feel a million times longer than last week, or is it just me?! Okay, so I know we had a super short week last week with the holidays, but normally when I’m super busy my days still fly by. Just pass the extra-large coffee my way, please! (Speaking of coffee, has anyone else seen the Gilmore Girls revival Netflix just released??! I have such mixed feelings..) Anyway, I’m excited to share with you guys my little haul reviews from the VIB/VIBRouge sales that happened at Sephora at the beginning of this month.

1. Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick in Ashton and Allison–$20/piece
The first shade of this lipstick I set out to purchase was Pure Hollywood, as it had been dubbed a dupe for one of the ever-so-popular Kylie Jenner lip kit shades. Of course, I was never able to get my hands on this coveted color and settled instead for Dusty Rose–a pinky mauve thats very wearable for everyday. I found the formula, although somewhat drying, applied smoothly, opaquely, and most importantly, reapplication goes on just as smoothly and opaquely. I love the color Ashton for fall. In my experience, they all dry a little bit darker than they are in the tube (which is my experience with most liquid lipsticks). Allison is such a beautiful warm pinky-brown. It’s darker than Dusty Rose but still very wearable for everyday. Overall, I recommend these liquid lipsticks if you’re looking for work appropriate colors and a comfortable, long-lasting formula.

2. Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm–$29
I debated on purchasing this because I am an avid user of makeup remover wipes for taking off my face at the end of the day. But after receiving a sample of this in a Sephora Play! Box, I knew I had to purchase the full size. The number one thing I love about this product is that it DOESN’T DRY OUT MY FACE! That’s a big deal to me, because I feel like when I’m cleansing my face at night with 18 different washes and scrubs and this and that, I’m not replenishing my skin with everything I’m stripping from it. Plus the balm makes it much easier to remove eye makeup than a wipe. I go through it quickly, though, so maybe it’s best left for the hard to remove lips and eye makeup.

3. Smashbox Always On Matte Liquid Lipstick–$24
Holy liquid lipstick goodness do I love this formula! Again, I received a sample of Driver’s Seat in a Sephora Play! box and I decided to try a couple of non-traditional colors. I purchased Chill Zone and Out Loud, which is the color pictured here. I don’t experience any weird peeling or flaking off of this formula, I love the applicator wand and tip, I just wish the price point was a little less expensive! If you have been eyeing these lipsticks, I would recommend purchasing a fun color you wouldn’t wear everyday!

4. Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer–$28
Okay, okay, I know everyone loveeesss the Tarte shape tape concealer. But honestly, the Naked concealer is my g0-t0. I like the coverage more than the Tarte shape tape, which I find difficult to build to my liking without it looking cake-y. The Naked concealer feels lighter on my skin and then there’s the added bonus that the Naked concealer isn’t incessantly sold out! The Tarte shape tape took me weeks and weeks to get my hands on! I will say the wear of the Naked concealer is not as long as the Tarte shape tape, but with a little setting powder, I make it work. I do wish there were more shades to choose from in the Naked. I’ve used Fair Neutral and Light Neutral, and I prefer to lightest shade.

5. Kopari Coconut Balm–$32
I thought I would opt for the less expensive option here, as the coconut melt jar is a few dollars more. I also prefer my lotions in a pump or tube because they’re less messy that way. In this instance, however, I wish I would have just bought the jar. Although the smell is great and of course the extra-provided moisture is great, the difficulty of getting the product out of the tube is way more effort than it’s worth! (I’m lolling at myself right now.) I honestly thought there must have been a tab covering the opening of the tube when I first used it because I could not get product out no matter how hard I squeezed. Surprise! There’s no tab, I just need to start lifting weights apparently…My recommendation would be if you’re still set on purchasing the tube because you prefer the balm consistency (like myself) then set it on a shelf in your shower and let the warmth from the shower heat it up so you can apply after. It will make the product easier to work with. Otherwise, splurge for the jar melt!

Until next time, lovies! xoxo

Giving Thanks In Style

So, if you’re anything like me, you are currently curled up in bed and have been for at least the last hour.  I plan on enjoying every last second of work-free afternoons the next two days. I cannot wait to visit with my mom in the kitchen sipping coffee, watch some football with my dad, and see the new Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them movie in theaters with my little brother! (I’m really excited for that last bit, haha!) For the most part I enjoy being casual around my family and my home town. So, for this look, I took a plain Piko dress and a blanket scarf I keep in constant winter wardrobe rotation and paired them with my Steve Madden OTK boots to dress it up a little bit. The dress is short enough to wear with leggings or jeans underneath and ankle booties to make it more casual.

I am so ready to break out the rest of my scarves, so the weather here in Louisiana needs to make up its mind already! The rain this afternoon brought some warm wind with it. Fingers crossed for an icier breeze when I head home in the morning. With blanket scarves like this one, I’m not the greatest at perfectly coiffing it to a point in front. My advice to those of you who are unsure how to style a blanket scarf: throw it around your neck and over your shoulders until it stays put and you are warm–and voila!

If you’re doing a late Thanksgiving or Friendsgiving, or just want to be helpful in the kitchen preparing something tomorrow, consider one of the easiest and most favored appetizers: deviled eggs! What I love about this delicious finger food is that it’s almost impossible to mess up and it’s even easier to make! I usually boil some eggs and then peel them under cold running water to make them easier to peel. Once I have cut them and scooped out the yolk into a separate dish, I alternate adding dollops of mayonnaise and mustard/shakes of salt and pepper until the “deviled” mixture is whipped and creamy with a sweeter taste (compared to the more sour taste a mustard-heavy mix can have). I return the newly concocted yolk to its original egg-home and top with a pinch of paprika. Now, some folks like to add relish, pickles, Worcestershire, or even Tony Chachere’s, but keeping in mind the picky eaters in my family–namely my brother and myself–I keep the mixture pretty simple. It’s all about personal preference, and that’s what makes it so easy!

Thanksgiving Outfit Inspo with Ava and Joy

Happy Weekend lovlies!

I’ll finally be catching literally the tiniest break from my schoolwork this week since one of my three classes won’t be meeting on campus. (It’s about an hour commute there and back for me.) I’m hoping to be able to head home a day early for some extra R&R with my family!

In the meantime, I’ve teamed up with Ava & Joy–a boutique out of Dallas, Texas–to create a fun and trendy outfit perfect for all the turkey-eating and football-watching you could possibly do on Thanksgiving Day!

I want to point out how impressed I am with the quality of the pieces! The fit of the jeans, especially. They are SO comfortable, but I could tell that they are durable as well. I feel like the price point is perfect. I even washed and dried the top, which is knit material, and it had ZERO snags, loose threads, anything that usually (and unfortunately) happens when you wash and dry a knit shirt. The shirt can be worn off-the-shoulder because it’s got a T-strap in the back, but I prefer the way it fits normally. I felt so cute and comfortable in these pieces!
