Pretty Little Details

With women not fully dominating the workforce until the latter half of the 20th century, it’s crazy to see how much women’s office wear has changed over the years. (I’m currently picturing Mad Men to Dolly Parton in 9 to 5,  to Rachel at Ralph Lauren in Friends.) Jewel-tones are pretty much my favorite colors to wear, and honestly I feel like they look good on most everybody. And I don’t think I’ll ever own enough straight-leg pants. They’re such a good meet-in-the-middle of a more formal wide-leg trouser and a skinny pant. When I’m feeling like my #wootd is a little too bland, I love adding feminine touches to make it feel more me. Here, I added a pink statement necklace and although you can’t see it well, my pumps have the cutest cut-out close to the heel. These details are small but make me feel ultra femme and put-together.

I’m often asked if I wear my hair up so much because I’m too lazy to fix it or if it’s dirty. Sometimes that may be the case, but really I love the way I feel with my hair up and out of my face! It’s easier to focus, it keeps me from fidgeting and touching my hair too much during conversation, and overall I feel so much prettier with a prim & proper ‘do! I heartily encourage you to try something new with your hair! Part it differently, wear it half up, braid your tresses, or dress them up with a fun clip or headband even. The purpose of this is to find what works for you in different situations. I know, I know. You’re thinking, “I don’t ever style my hair differently because it’s fine the way it is and I like wearing it that way!” But think of it this way…how will you ever know if anything else suits you if you don’t at least try? I hope you find a fun style that makes you feel even more beautiful!

Per usual I linked everything at the bottom, y’all enjoy!

Fear No Color: Brightening Up Your Work Wardrobe

Hey lovies!
I’ll be totally honest…today has been a Monday *shudders*. After all the holidays and hanging out, it’s been a kick in the butt to get back in the swing of things. To make this week a little easier jumping back into a 5-day work week, I thought brightening up my #wootd would do the trick! If you didn’t know already, I love mixing patterns and wearing bright colors, so it’s fun for me to be able to channel that into my workwear.
What are some fun ways you guys like to spice up your work wardrobe?

First Week of School Blues

Processed with VSCO with c3 preset

I happen to have quite a few friends who are teachers, of all grades.  This post is inspired by them and all they do throughout a school day! Where I grew up, we had uniforms in gradeschool that required none other than khaki pants–like 10 years straight of khaki pants. For that reason, I fought wearing them or purchasing new ones throughout my college years. Post-graduation and into the workforce however, I found that khaki pants were one thing my wardrobe still needed even after all the fighting to live without them!

During my 9-5, I am doing A TON of hopping in and out of the car, on my feet all day, or in the heat (because let’s be honest–Louisiana never gets cold). So when I wore this outfit to work one day, I immediately thought of how comfortable teachers would be wearing it too!

Blues and purples are my favorite colors to wear, and y’all know I had to throw some print in there somewhere. The loose peplum detail on the tank sold me on it. Apparently some of my outfit pieces went away with the summer months, but I’ve linked tons of similar fall-ish options below. Feel free to share with a teacher in your life!

This outfit is quintessentially me, and I’ve worn it wayyyyy more than once! What’s so great about a colorful, printed pant is how many options for solid-colored shirts it opens up for wear. Because this particular outfit was a #wootd, I stuck with very basic neutrals–a white portofino shirt and nude heels. My exact pieces are from a couple of years back, so I’m linking similar options. I chose not to tuck in the blouse because I wanted a more flowy and feminine feel, and a less formal vibe. Plus, it adds a little extra comfort that the heels don’t.  I hope you guys have as much fun wearing this outfit as I do!

office florals

If you haven’t figured it out already…I love wearing bright colors and I love bold prints! This floral midi dress from Viva la Jewels  is the quintessential bright, bold, office-appropriate piece. Now, it is technically a ‘midi dress.’ Meaning, it should be hitting below my knees, but I am on the taller side, so it hits just above my knee, which is still work-approp. The material wasn’t itchy or uncomfortable, I wouldn’t say it really ‘breathed’ well, but I had plenty of room to walk, bend, reach, whatever I may need to do in the office that day. (I’m wearing a small for reference.) Not only is this dress SUPER affordable (it’s only $28 bucks!) but it also comes in three other color options! It could definitely be worn outside of work as well, but I paired it with coral pumps and minimal accessories for the office. Everything is linked below, and every item in this outfit is under $30!

I love finding bright and flirty dresses that are long enough for me to wear for work! This bright orange/coral-ish dress came with a belt of the same fabric so I swapped it for a dark brown snakeskin print skinny belt. Of course, I bangle it up and throw on some comfortable flats that don’t take away from the dress! Although I snagged this particular dress on sale (it was either here or here), I linked some similar ones below along with similar shoe options.

Back to Black

The only way I am wearing black during the summer when I know I will have to step foot outside at all that day is if I get to throw a crazy bright pattern all over it! This floral swing dress is easy, breezy, and it instantly boosts my mood the second I put it on. IT EVEN HAS POCKETS GUYS. Featured here is how I’d style it for a girls’ night or dinner with friends, but I’ve also worn it several times for work with a light cardigan and pointed-toe flats (linked below). I really want to draw some attention to this gorgeous leather handbag though. SAVVYROOT is a local brand–Baton Rouge-based in fact. I’m sporting the Charleston Tote from the SS16 collection. Actually, my good friend Victoria Shumaker turned me onto the brand. She just-so-happened to also bless me with this beautiful blowout! I’ve linked her name to her salon in case you live in the Baton Rouge area and want your hair to be #blessed too.

Notice how I’m rockin’ my FitBit? Gifted to me by my boyfriend, this purple piece of tech almost never leaves my wrist. What I love most is that it tracks everything AND records it. A few of my friends chose an Apple watch instead, but I needed something a lot more durable. I wouldn’t call myself the ‘fittest’ person in the world, but wearing my FitBit allows me to monitor my movement and heart rate throughout the day and motivates me to keep moving when I haven’t been too active. Here is why you need one in your life too. Plus, you can find cute decorative replacement bands or band sleeves for them just about anywhere!

Do you have an accessory you never leave home without? Let me know in the comments!
