Jump! Jump! Jump(suit)!

Did anyone else get that Kriss Kross reference? No? LOL. I’ve been in a 90s music mood the last several days. What are your favorite songs from the 90s??

I’m loving this chambray jumpsuit I purchased from Frock Candy, Baton Rouge. I haven’t really come across anything like it! It’s perfect for summer weddings orrrr two-for-one drinks specials around town, haha. I sized down in this piece and am wearing a small here. I clearly could have worn flats without it being too long, but I opted for wedges and a statement necklace to dress it up a little more. I believe the straps are adjustable so even though I’m on the slightly taller side of the height spectrum, I don’t have any issues with the jumpsuit not being long enough in the waist.

Per usual, everything is linked below my lovies!

Embroidery for the win!

I cannot say enough great things about this dress! Ya’ll know how crazy I am about being comfortable, especially in insane hot weather. This dress has me covered (-;

I can be weird about dresses with sleeves and no stretch because I’m built super broad-shouldered, but I don’t have any issues with feeling constricted. I would say this piece fits true-to-size, and I’m wearing a medium for reference. I paired it with some nude, studded ankle-wrapped flat sandals, a neutral envelope clutch, and a pair of cayyooooot(!) fringe earrings. **Side-note, these earrings are from The Starfish Project! Every piece they sell donates back to aiding women who were once victims of human trafficking and exploitation. Their story is  overwhelming and wonderful, not to mention their pieces are so beautiful and feminine–a reflection of their mission. I can’t wait to make another purchase and help their cause.

3 Ways to Style Boyfriend Jeans

STYLE ONE: GAME DAY/NIGHT
Although here in Louisiana, I couldn’t wear this outfit unless it was a November/December/January game (and sometimes not even then) because it stays so hot. BUT I can honestly say I would rock this out on a Saturday night. This whole outfit is giving me major 90s vibes, but that makes me love it even more. Not pictured, I’m wearing some black super strappy flat sandals with this outfit, but platform sandals would be so cute! Even basic black high-top converse would pull this ensemble together.

STYLE TWO: DATE NIGHT/GNO
What I love so much about pairing distressed boyfriend jeans with a blazer, is that throwing on a pair of heels and a sassy bun makes this look effortlessly feminine–perfect for date night or girls’ night out. I would add a silver clutch or black bucket bag to complete this look. Or even some cool geometric-shaped earrings rather than a statement necklace. Check out some picks I’ve linked down below!

STYLE THREE: SUNDAY ERRANDS
Throw on a comfy basic tee with some equally as comfy tennis shoes. Add a baseball cap to hide dirty hair and you’re all set to be super productive on your day off!

Festival: Tips & Tricks

hey honeys!

I am super excited to share this post with y’all! Festival season is here and there’s a reason people go all out for these thangs. I’m going to get right to it and share with you all some of my go-to style tricks when I’m getting ready for a weekend of drinking, dancing, music-binging and everything in between!

First and foremost, comfort is key. I know that my outfit here may not strike you personally as comfortable but it’s easy to throw on plus it’s loose and flowy–all things I prefer in pieces I have to be wearing for long periods of time. Can I dance in this outfit? Most absolutely I can! My advice to you is to make sure what you wear breathes and moves with you while you’re wild’n out!

Secondly, can you go to the bathroom easily in your outfit of choosing? I’m breaking like a top priority here with my shorteralls pick, but FASHION OVER EVERYTHING, AMIRITE?! lollllz. But seriously, it truly is an important thing to consider when bathroom lines are long, porter-potty stalls are tiny, and you’ve got less than three minutes to pee and dart to the next stage. Also, it is rare for me to rare rings when I know I’m going to be dancing, holding drinks, putting a backpack on and off…it’s just asking for me to lose them!

Let’s not forget: are you wearing comfortable shoes? I’m wearing some pretty basic gladiator sandals so in a nutshell my feet won’t be sweating and I can kick ’em off if I feel like rocking bare feet. I wouldn’t recommend wearing a pair of new shoes you haven’t broken in yet, but if you wear closed-toe shoes at all invest in some comfy socks to prevent blisters.

This is cruicial– are you wearing sweat-proof makeup?? This one is pretty self-explanatory. Here are some of my festival staples: Foundation, setting spray, long-lasting lipstick

Basic pieces can be just as fun and trendy as layering and mixing patterns. Don’t feel like because the ‘norm’ is to be over-the-top that that’s what you have to do! Adding jewelry or fun makeup can get you the vibe you’re going for without breaking the bank or being uncomfortable. Also, there are other ways of showing skin besides wearing a bikini top and jean shorts, like how I did an off the shoulder top here. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all about that life, especially when it’s hot AF outside. But use these opportunities to challenge yourself and your style–wear things you may not otherwise!

Lastly, wear whatever you want to! Dress in costume, wear an oversized tshirt as a dress, wear whatever makes YOU happy. Because in the end, that’s all that matters! 😀

50 Shades of Yellow

Happy Friday Eve my loves! This is my favorite part of the work week, aside from leaving the office on a Friday afternoon looking forward to a weekend full of relaxing and catching up on sleep. Jordan and I had so much fun with this shoot, it was a chilly but beautiful day for honey-colored lace and my favorite-colored lipstick. My exact romper is from Blink! boutique in Baton Rouge. I actually saw it in an insta post and had it shipped from their store in New Orleans. This exact yellow color is available in a few sizes here, as well as a beautiful periwinkle color perfect for spring. Also, I’ve linked some fun yellow pieces at the end of the post. Enjoy and happy weekend! XXXO

#flarefriday

Who has two thumbs and wears white after Labor Day and before Easter?! *This girl!*
When warmer weather hits in Louisiana, it’s so hard for me to stay away from white for several more weeks. But where’s the fun in always following the rules? 😉

ALSO, you NEED this denim in your life guys!! Frillz boutique carries Judy Blue denim and the fit is fabulous! I’m not hippy per say, but I’ve got thighs on the thicker side and once I slipped into these jeans I immediately bought a pair of destroyed skinnies as well. Check out Frillz and do yourself a favor and grab these jeans!

Happy weekend, lovies! xoxo

Mardi Gras Formal

Laissez les bon temps rouler, y’all! Mardi Gras season is almost officially over and boy will I miss the delicious king cakes and stellar carnival festivities. Did you know that the reason Mardi Gras balls are hosted is because they were considered the proper form of celebration in early French-reigned New Orleans, long before parades? The ‘carnival’ aspect came from the Spanish governing parties. Today, three hundred years after the first recorded Mardi Gras ball, the tradition continues to be celebrated during the carnival season!

Now, my dress color is not in fact one of the main colors of Mardi Gras (purple for royalty, gold for power and riches, and green for faith, as it is a religious celebration at its origin), but I haven’t been able to stray away from red lately! 😉  Although I borrowed this particular gown, similar ones will be linked at the end of this post! Enjoy, lovies! xoxo

Boheme Valentine

So, I’m currently watching season one of Blindspot. Have you guys seen it before? Totally wasn’t expecting to be this addicting and fast-paced! Make that, currently bingewatching. What are some of y’all’s favorite television shows? During the school semester I don’t really have a ton of time to watch, but on breaks and downtime, I’m all about some Netflix and couch time.
I’m super excited to share this look with you guys, especially since it’s been a while since I’ve posted. School has been kicking my butt having to commute to class 3x a week, and thennnnn there’s the fact that Blaine and I moved into a new house last weekend! Holy #adulting! (I am not an interior designer by any means either so any suggestions will be warmly welcomed!)

For this look, I wanted to make it as feminine and flowy as I possibly knew how. My dress is from Bella Bella boutique in Baton Rouge,LA and my boots are from Edge Boutique in Hammond,LA. I’m linking both of their instagrams! I actually got the hat from a girlfriend, but have seen similar ones at Marshall’s. As usual, I will link tons of similar options at the end of this post. I’m pretty sure that for Valentine’s Day I will be missing my handsome Valentine while in class. We don’t have any traditions, per-say but I love anything food-related! Trying new restaurants or eating out at favorite local spots. Plus, there’s always holiday sale candy the day after V-day, which is my absolute favvv! Do you guys do Valentine’s Day or Galentine’s Day? I’d love to know!

One last little tidbit for your Valentine’s Day festivities! I made these a lot through high school and college as cupcakes. But for Valentine’s Day, I switch it up to a heart-shaped pan. I’m not really a “make from scratch” kinda girl because I feel like when I bake from scratch it tastes different every time, even when I use the exact same ingredients and measurements. Using pre-made mixes, I know once I bake and ice, I’ll get some delicious strawberry-funfetti cupcakes! Orrrr, for those of y’all who like vanilla cake base better, switch up the icing/cake mixes, like I did below! What are your favorite Valentine’s Day treats??

Fat Tuesday to Fit Wednesday: Mardi Gras Style with SFT

Don’t mind me, I’m just cozied up over here eating all the king cake I can! Mardi Gras season is a very close second to Christmas time–the food, the fun, the celebration, you just can’t beat it! My most favorite Mardi Gras memories are running Church Point’s Mardi Gras with my lovies. It is incredibly hard to describe what exactly Courir de Mardi Gras is like without experiencing it for yourself. But check out this link that covers a few of the basics!
Church Point Courir de Mardi Gras 2016

Unfortunately, it’s cold and rainy on Mardi Gras more than it isn’t, so you’ll usually find me doing exactly as I’m pictured here: staying warm and dry with my cake and coffee.

For the SFT King Cake Challenge, I was asked to pick my favorite king cake recipe here in Baton Rouge. I set out on this journey with a determination only my taste buds were prepared to handle, lolz. After several suggestions and a couple of taste tests, my favorite is hands-down is the Bavarian cream king cake from Port Allen Bakery. Okay, so it’s not directly in Baton Rouge. But a little ride over the bridge is only painful at high traffic times, and I assure you–this little slice of cream-filled heaven is well worth the drive. They sell out super quickly every day, though, so I would recommend looking them up on Facebook and calling ahead for whatever you decide to order.

If you’re not feeling the drive, or just don’t want to commit to the calories, CC’s Coffee House offers a latte version of Louisiana’s most beloved sweet treat. Cinnamon, caramel, whipped cream…need I say more? If you don’t live near a CC’s, try Community Coffee’s option.  I prefer eating my king cake and drinking my king cake latte all in one sitting because it’s the little things in life, y’all!.

You can purchase SFT’s Mardi Gras long-sleeve tee here.

Now, after king cake season has come and gone, it’s time to tone it up! Do you guys have any fitness resolutions this year? SFT just launched some adorable Sweet Baton Rouge work out gear you can pick up here. But if you’re a DIY-er, grab any one of their Louisiana Love tees and make it your own! I love wearing anything plaid or purple, so I had a blast pairing this Mardi Gras Louisiana tee with some Lululemon compression leggings.
You could even pair this shirt with some skinnies and wedges or denim cut-offs and a purple bralette for summer time casual! This creative design also comes in a long sleeve version.

For the record, (if you didn’t already know) I love my Fitbit. I would recommend a sport-watch versus something like an Apple watch, especially when you know you’ll be using machines or weights and sweating. I know you can change Apple watch bands, but why not just opt for a less expensive and equally as functional option? I wear mine nearly every day and will gladly repurchase the next version! Also, I do not recommend wearing these shoes for running. They’re perfect for anything stationary, but opt for a pair like this if you plan on jogging!

Can’t wait to see and hear about how you guys celebrate Mardi Gras and your fitness goals for the year! Until next time, lovies. XoXo

Pretty Little Details

With women not fully dominating the workforce until the latter half of the 20th century, it’s crazy to see how much women’s office wear has changed over the years. (I’m currently picturing Mad Men to Dolly Parton in 9 to 5,  to Rachel at Ralph Lauren in Friends.) Jewel-tones are pretty much my favorite colors to wear, and honestly I feel like they look good on most everybody. And I don’t think I’ll ever own enough straight-leg pants. They’re such a good meet-in-the-middle of a more formal wide-leg trouser and a skinny pant. When I’m feeling like my #wootd is a little too bland, I love adding feminine touches to make it feel more me. Here, I added a pink statement necklace and although you can’t see it well, my pumps have the cutest cut-out close to the heel. These details are small but make me feel ultra femme and put-together.

I’m often asked if I wear my hair up so much because I’m too lazy to fix it or if it’s dirty. Sometimes that may be the case, but really I love the way I feel with my hair up and out of my face! It’s easier to focus, it keeps me from fidgeting and touching my hair too much during conversation, and overall I feel so much prettier with a prim & proper ‘do! I heartily encourage you to try something new with your hair! Part it differently, wear it half up, braid your tresses, or dress them up with a fun clip or headband even. The purpose of this is to find what works for you in different situations. I know, I know. You’re thinking, “I don’t ever style my hair differently because it’s fine the way it is and I like wearing it that way!” But think of it this way…how will you ever know if anything else suits you if you don’t at least try? I hope you find a fun style that makes you feel even more beautiful!

Per usual I linked everything at the bottom, y’all enjoy!

xoxo
