I love finding bright and flirty dresses that are long enough for me to wear for work! This bright orange/coral-ish dress came with a belt of the same fabric so I swapped it for a dark brown snakeskin print skinny belt. Of course, I bangle it up and throw on some comfortable flats that don’t take away from the dress! Although I snagged this particular dress on sale (it was either here or here), I linked some similar ones below along with similar shoe options.

Necklace: Kendra Scott

Dress: Nordstrom, Nordstrom, Nordstrom Rack, Forever 21, Forever 21, Express, Old Navy, Banana Republic, Pacsun

Belt: Forever 21, Gap, Nordstrom Rack

Bracelets: JuJu’s Boutique, Blink Boutique, Aldo

Shoes: Frock Candy, Charlotte Russe, Amazon

Vehicle Essentials

Originally I estimated I would have ten top necessary things to keep in your car at all times. When I sat down and really thought about the things I keep in my car that have prevented some difficult or unfortunate situations however, I quickly realized the list was greater than just ten. For all intents and purposes of this post though, here are the ten most useful things to keep in your car (in my opinion, of course!):

  1. Napkins/Baby Wipes
Let’s be honest here, if you don’t eat in your car, you’ve at least gone through the drive thru at Starbucks to grab a coffee for the road. Nary a road exists that is completely devoid of bumps, and spills do happen. For this reason I have listed napkins and/or baby wipes as my number one must-have. Personally, I keep a stack of napkins in my glove box. Ask for extra napkins when you’re picking up a coffee!
  2. Umbrella
When I was in college I kept a travel-sized umbrella in my backpack as well as a larger one in my car. Now, I keep two in my car. They have saved me too many times to count from this temperamental Louisiana weather. Even when you know to expect rain, having an umbrella with you in your car becomes a simple convenience. Vera Bradley has some precious ones here.
  3. Zip-up Jacket
Well, if you decide you don’t need an umbrella in your car at least now you’ve got a jacket for when you’re sitting freezing from the rain. Check out this one and this one I swap between keeping in my car.
  4. Extra Charger & Wall Adapter
I’m not as rough on the chargers I keep plugged in in my car as I used to be, but keeping a spare on hand in case the plug or port became stripped from too much wear & tear has proved hugely useful. A lot of times I forget to pack a wall charger in my suitcase when I’m traveling, so keeping the wall adapter in my car comes in handy. I love these light-up cables. They look like little LED ants traveling through the charging cord, haha!
  5. Hand Sanitizer
Of course you can keep this in your purse as well, but after I pump gas I don’t want to be rummaging through my purse. My work makes handy spray travel-sized sanitizers, but Bath & Body Works always has great deals when you purchase multiples.
  6. Spare Sunnies
I have friends or coworkers travel with me more often than not so I like to keep an extra pair of sunglasses on hand in case they’re needed. Plus, I appreciate having options! I linked some really cute ones my post here.
  7. Chapstick
This one is a little tricky because lip products will melt in crazy heat. I have found that if I keep them in my center console, they stay cool enough not to lose shape, even if they do get a little warm. Sometimes I am rushing out of the house so quickly I forget to put on lipstick, and I would rather just swipe on something easy while I’m on my way to work. I love these Burt’s Bees lip balms because they’re hydrating with the perfect hint of color.
  8. Travel-sized Fragrance
This is another tricky one again because of the heat. It can evaporate when too hot. Nevertheless I strongly suggest keeping a rollerball or travel-sized spray in your car for days when you feel like you could use a little freshening up. Victoria’s Secret has an awesome travel-size selection of fresh scents.
  9. Extra Pair of Shoes
For me, I keep a nice, work-appropriate pair of flats with me in case I get tired of heels or my original shoes get wet in the rain that I’ve mentioned always seems to come out of nowhere. You might be the type of person that would rather a pair of tennis shoes or sandals for whatever occasion. Either way, keep that extra pair with you in your vehicle just in case! You’ll be glad you did.
  10. A Versatile Playlist
Lastly, invest in some really really good road trip music, even if you’re not headed out of town anytime soon. Whether you purchase a Spotify account, burn a new mixed CD, or have a playlist on your phone, good music on your way to or from wherever you are headed is a total mood booster. I used to listen to some heavy rock to amp up for tests, but maybe you had a really rough day and would rather some alternative on the way home. With Spotify, you get a student discount with a school email address. You can create your own playlists or start a radio station playlist of songs from a song you already like. I like to make my own. It eliminates the hassle of trying to find something to listen to on the radio and I can enjoy my own thoughts when I’m driving. My point is, having invested some time into a worthy playlist, you will be able to enjoy yourself more when traveling, no matter the distance of the trip.

Aside from the obvious things like insurance, registration, and jumper cables, is there anything you guys would suggest keeping on hand? Let me know in the comments!

Okay guys! Sorry it has taken me so long to post, but I am SO excited to share these purchases with y’all. Right after I finally knocked some things off of my wishlist at Sephora, my boyfriend surprised me with some things I had been coveting from Ulta. I know, I know. Now I’m the girl who gets to cheesy-brag on my stud of a boif. But he definitely earned some points with what he scooped up! I’ll get right down to it:

First up, Tarte Tarteist Creamy Matte Lip Paint, Naughty Nudes collection. I was really excited about these lip paint colors when they were released. They have such a 90s vibe! Eventually I will own them all, but the ones I ended up purchasing were Choker (a “warm brown”), Rave (a “greige”), and Crop Top (a “mauve brown”). I LOVE how creamy these lipsticks are! Perfect combination of creamy and matte, just like they’re named. Now, I already own a few colors similar to choker, but none stay this creamy while wearing them. It is a warmer brown, but I wouldn’t call it a lighter brown by any means. This one ended up being my favorite on, even though I was sure I would love Rave the most. Rave is the prettiest shade of grey, and I didn’t have any colors like it. I feel like it’s a color that could be worn every day versus a very stark shade of grey that would better be suited for Halloween or special nighttime occasions. I was really disappointed in Crop Top, though. I thought it would be the most fun color to wear from the description, but it felt like it didn’t have the same consistency as the other lippies. It took several applications to get the lip cream on smoothly and the color to the shade I was expecting. After I was satisfied with the application, it seemed like I blinked and my lipstick was gone! There is zero lasting power with this shade. I can say I won’t be repurchasing Crop Top, but I love my other Naughty Nude shades. I’ll be purchasing Brownie next!

I was recommended the Too Faced Melted Matte Lipstick by a girlfriend so I purchased two super fun colors: Unicorn, a bright violet/purple, and Who’s Zoomin’ Who, a stunning dark blue. I was completely blown away by the dark blue! It is exactly the navy lipstick I have been searching for, long-lasting, smooth application, and overall fun and wearable. I would highly recommend purchasing this lip in place of the Kylie Lip Kit mentioned in my earlier post.

These next purchases I am still freaking out about. I bought the BECCA x Jaclyn Hill Blush and Highlighter Duos in the Champagne Collection. I bought two different ones: Champagne Pop/Flowerchild and Presecco Pop/Pamplemousse. The Champagne Pop/Flowerchild duo lasted through heat, rain, sweat, and pretty much every element of a busy summer day. I was so impressed! I found the colors extremely wearable for every day ( I probably will wear this every day), but not so much the glam I initially expected. The Presecco Pop/Pamplemousse duo is AMAZING and because these are limited edition, I will most definitely be repurchasing this one. The highlight (Presecco Pop) is a gorgeous light gold, whereas the Champagne Pop in the other duo is a richer, darker gold. It definitely gave me the glam I was looking for. I’ve mentioned before that bright pink or coral blushes are something I’ve shied away from in the past, but the blush side of this duo (the Pamplemousse) is such a sassy, girly pink! I love it! I would 100% recommend this duo for any skin shade, too! I’m still undecided if I want to try the other two duos. If you guys have tried either of the others, let me know in the comments!

One of the point-earning products my thoughtful boyfriend picked up for me was the Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade. I’m still not sure how I feel about this! I’ve been such a long-time user of pencils, powders, and gels, that a pomade intimidated me a little. I usually pencil my eyebrows a few shades darker, as that is on trend right now (thank you Cara Delevingne), but the shade Medium Brown in the pomade is much much too dark for me. I will have to swap for Taupe or Soft Brown. I will say that as soon as I applied this, my brows looked professionally done. Instant attitude to my face! On the other hand, I felt that with my oily skin, the pomade didn’t sit well on my brows. I will have to play with it some more in the correct shade and update y’all!

The last thing I’m going to cover on this post is another boyfriend-pickup surprise. Y’all already know I’m obsessed with Tarte Amazonian Clay Blushes, so I had to check out the Naughty Nude collection of blushes too! I ended up with the shade Exposed, a “matte nude pink.” Ugh, I should have known I was going to totally love it and want to purchase the rest of them! It’s a light, pretty, perfectly nude shade of pink with buildable potential. I would say my skin tone is a little too warm for this exact shade, but I will be grabbing Seduce and Risque on my next trip to Ulta or Sephora.

I’ve put up some lip swatches on my Insta, but if you guys want to see anything else on, let me know in the comments and I can upload pics!

Makeup I’ve Tried And Didn’t Like (Despite the Hype)

Have you ever been so excited for a new cosmetic product to launch? You’ve followed the brand on every form of social media to stay updated. You’ve forced yourself to wait for others to try this awesome new thang before you buy it so you could read the reviews. Now you’ve finally bought this supposedly spectacular new foundation or mascara or lipstick and you are SO PUMPED to use it!

And it’s got as many cons going for it as it does pros, if not more. Such a bummer! It is for that exact reason I’ve listed a ton of awesomely-hyped-up products that were less than fantastic for me, and what I started using instead!

1.Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara

Fully-loaded lashes? Yep.
Black as night? Yep.
Flakes all over my face? Oh yeah.
After reading a ton of reviews on the Sephora website, I dropped the $25 and left the rest up to this little pink tube of magic. I saw results almost immediately as I applied this mascara, but within 3 hours I had major fallout. Black flakes were ALL over my face–way more than any mascara I had previously tried.  Honestly, I can’t imagine the waterproof version being anything but worse, although I couldn’t bring myself to try it because waterproof mascara is always impossible to remove. I loved the look of my lashes from this product, but definitely would not recommend it for every day wear. I use it now for only special events, and I can’t say I will be repurchasing any time soon.

Try Instead: Buxom Lash Mascara

This mascara I found was a super similar formula, though not as thick, but separated and lengthened equally as well without the crazy fallout. Not to mention it’s a few dollars cheaper!

2. Kylie Jenner Lip Kit in Freedom

My obsession with the Kylie Jenner Lip Kits is oh so incredibly real and unfaltering. At least until I purchased this “I-had-to-have-it-or-I-was-going-to-die-from-lack-of-having-this-color-in-my-life” navy blue lip kit the day it was released. I put it on as soon as it came in and my heart just broke. The formula felt like I was just trying to watercolor my lips and Monet I am not. Even when the formula dried it was not a rich and pretty matte color like the rest of Kylie’s kits. Complete bust.

Try Instead: Jeffree Star Cosmetics Velour Liquid Lipstick in Blue Velvet

OR Colourpop Cosmetics Ultra Matte Lip in Jellies

Although the argument remains that Kylie is using nearly the same formula as Colourpop, I beg to differ. On my lips they apply completely differently. Jeffree Star’s liquid lipsticks are so hard to come by, but so worth it! Try them both for less than the price you’d pay for Kylie’s lip kit!

3. Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in ‘Trooper’

The perfect fine-tip liquid eyeliner is hard to find. Seriously. It’s like a mythical creature. I was really excited to try this eyeliner that had been recommended to me by more than a few friends. It lasted really well for the first couple of uses…..and that was about it. After that I felt as though the tip wasn’t as firm as it should have been after only two or three applications, plus the color faded on my lids too much after so short a period of time.

Try Instead: stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner

Sharper. Longer-lasting applicator. Richer, longer-lasting color. Love this eyeliner.

4. NYX Cream Highlight and Contour Palette

Holy crap is this stuff just completely befuddling to me. To transfer from the pan to my face was an adventure. Then, once on my face to blend was yet another chore. Brushes, beauty blenders, fingers, I tried using them all! It’s not an easy formula/consistency to work with, period.

Try Instead: Kat Von D Shade + Light Contour Palettekatvondcontour

Using her contour brush, this powder contour kit literally glides onto your skin, contouring it like a friggen’ pro. ***Side note: I have very oily skin so powder contour formulas work better for me! If you have the opposite skin type, the opposite product formula types might work better for you!***

5. Too Faced Born This Way Foundation

I promise this is not a Too Faced bashing party, lol, I love the brand and have an obsession with their bronzers. But this foundation was a bust for me too.  First of all, I found it more difficult than I’d like to find a color match, which I wouldn’t really consider my skin tone a difficult shade to match. I guess in this one instance the foundation is similar to brands like BECCA whose shades favor certain skin tones and skin types. The Born This Way formula is light and creamy, which I love because thick foundations cause me major breakouts (i.e. MAC). The consistency makes it easy for buildable coverage based on your preference. The biggest let down for me though, was how within the next hour or two, the foundation looked like it was literally melting off of my face. Whew! It was unattractive, y’all. ***EDIT: Foundation primer, translucent powder, and setting spray made worlds of difference when I wore this again. Loved it!***

Try Instead: Make Up Forever Ultra HD Foundation

OR Covergirl Outlast Stay Fabulous 3-in-1 Foundation

I found that the Make Up Forever Ultra HD Foundation is not only a similar-feeling formula, but it also has a ton more color options! The Covergirl Outlast foundation felt like a similar formula on my skin, and it lasts through the day. (Even without primer or setting spray or powder.)

Spunky Florals

I’m all for a bright summer floral pattern over here! This bell-sleeved tunic (definitely could be a dress but I’m tall) is pretty, flowy, and just plain fun to wear! I wanted a more boho look, so I opted for killer knee-high gladiator sandals tucked into some cut-off denim. This piece could easily be dressed up with some white skinnies and cute neutral wedges! I’ve linked some below. Cat-eye-shaped sunglasses are new for me, but I was feeling their vibe with this outfit. I couldn’t pass up a mirror-lensed cat-eye either.

Have you noticed how much of my wardrobe is from local boutiques yet? I’ve linked all of their Instas because…THEY ALL SHIP, most with flat rate or free shipping! It’s pretty amazing. And if there is anything I’m unsure of fit-wise, color-wise, etc., every single boutique has impeccable customer service that always goes out of their way to help me and ensure I am pleased with my purchases.

Fall Festival

I’m not sure if you guys have heard of VooDoo Fest, but it’s one of my favorite festival concerts in Nola! There’s always a great lineup and plenty of potential to discover new sound. It’s usually Halloween weekend in October/first couple days of November, and the weather can be unpredictable. Two years ago it was bright and sunny during the day, chilly at night. Last year it rained nearly the entire weekend. For this Fall Festival look, I wanted an outfit that would let me stay cool if a heat wave happened, but wouldn’t leave me high, dry, and freezing when the sun went down. Lightweight jeggings, comfy sandals for all the walking between stages, a breezy tank, and a warm, plaid flannel to throw on once it got cool. Per my usual style, I stacked jewelry again. The more the merrier to me, haha!

Back to Black

The only way I am wearing black during the summer when I know I will have to step foot outside at all that day is if I get to throw a crazy bright pattern all over it! This floral swing dress is easy, breezy, and it instantly boosts my mood the second I put it on. IT EVEN HAS POCKETS GUYS. Featured here is how I’d style it for a girls’ night or dinner with friends, but I’ve also worn it several times for work with a light cardigan and pointed-toe flats (linked below). I really want to draw some attention to this gorgeous leather handbag though. SAVVYROOT is a local brand–Baton Rouge-based in fact. I’m sporting the Charleston Tote from the SS16 collection. Actually, my good friend Victoria Shumaker turned me onto the brand. She just-so-happened to also bless me with this beautiful blowout! I’ve linked her name to her salon in case you live in the Baton Rouge area and want your hair to be #blessed too.

Notice how I’m rockin’ my FitBit? Gifted to me by my boyfriend, this purple piece of tech almost never leaves my wrist. What I love most is that it tracks everything AND records it. A few of my friends chose an Apple watch instead, but I needed something a lot more durable. I wouldn’t call myself the ‘fittest’ person in the world, but wearing my FitBit allows me to monitor my movement and heart rate throughout the day and motivates me to keep moving when I haven’t been too active. Here is why you need one in your life too. Plus, you can find cute decorative replacement bands or band sleeves for them just about anywhere!

Do you have an accessory you never leave home without? Let me know in the comments!
