[Hair]apy

Hi lovies!

Remember this insta post I posted not long ago?? [If not, check it out here.]
I want to share with you my Nanoil Hair Oil experience as I have used it over several weeks!

  • Firstly, this stuff is packed with stuff that is not harmful to your hair. Quite the opposite, it’s full of NATURAL ingredients! Marula oil, jojoba oil, argan oil, coconut oil, just to name a few.
  • Secondly, although there are several ways you can use this oil, I prefer to massage it into the ends of my hair, where there is the most damage. Not only does it work as an AWESOME detangler, but it smooths my hair and provides protection against heat styling.
  • I can’t forget to mention that this hair oil is customizable!! This is a big deal to someone like myself, who has very fine, thin, color-treated hair and many oils and masks are way too heavy and leave my hair feeling greasy. So, whether you have thin hair, thick hair, curly hair, dry hair, color-treated hair, whatever it may be, there is a specific intensity of Nanoil Hair Oil for you!

If you guys have any questions regarding my experience just leave me a comment and I’d be glad to answer! You can also purchase your Nanoil Hair Oil here. Enjoy! xoxx

Jump! Jump! Jump(suit)!

Did anyone else get that Kriss Kross reference? No? LOL. I’ve been in a 90s music mood the last several days. What are your favorite songs from the 90s??

I’m loving this chambray jumpsuit I purchased from Frock Candy, Baton Rouge. I haven’t really come across anything like it! It’s perfect for summer weddings orrrr two-for-one drinks specials around town, haha. I sized down in this piece and am wearing a small here. I clearly could have worn flats without it being too long, but I opted for wedges and a statement necklace to dress it up a little more. I believe the straps are adjustable so even though I’m on the slightly taller side of the height spectrum, I don’t have any issues with the jumpsuit not being long enough in the waist.

Per usual, everything is linked below my lovies!

Embroidery for the win!

I cannot say enough great things about this dress! Ya’ll know how crazy I am about being comfortable, especially in insane hot weather. This dress has me covered (-;

I can be weird about dresses with sleeves and no stretch because I’m built super broad-shouldered, but I don’t have any issues with feeling constricted. I would say this piece fits true-to-size, and I’m wearing a medium for reference. I paired it with some nude, studded ankle-wrapped flat sandals, a neutral envelope clutch, and a pair of cayyooooot(!) fringe earrings. **Side-note, these earrings are from The Starfish Project! Every piece they sell donates back to aiding women who were once victims of human trafficking and exploitation. Their story is  overwhelming and wonderful, not to mention their pieces are so beautiful and feminine–a reflection of their mission. I can’t wait to make another purchase and help their cause.

3 Ways to Style Boyfriend Jeans

STYLE ONE: GAME DAY/NIGHT
Although here in Louisiana, I couldn’t wear this outfit unless it was a November/December/January game (and sometimes not even then) because it stays so hot. BUT I can honestly say I would rock this out on a Saturday night. This whole outfit is giving me major 90s vibes, but that makes me love it even more. Not pictured, I’m wearing some black super strappy flat sandals with this outfit, but platform sandals would be so cute! Even basic black high-top converse would pull this ensemble together.

STYLE TWO: DATE NIGHT/GNO
What I love so much about pairing distressed boyfriend jeans with a blazer, is that throwing on a pair of heels and a sassy bun makes this look effortlessly feminine–perfect for date night or girls’ night out. I would add a silver clutch or black bucket bag to complete this look. Or even some cool geometric-shaped earrings rather than a statement necklace. Check out some picks I’ve linked down below!

STYLE THREE: SUNDAY ERRANDS
Throw on a comfy basic tee with some equally as comfy tennis shoes. Add a baseball cap to hide dirty hair and you’re all set to be super productive on your day off!

Festival: Tips & Tricks

hey honeys!

I am super excited to share this post with y’all! Festival season is here and there’s a reason people go all out for these thangs. I’m going to get right to it and share with you all some of my go-to style tricks when I’m getting ready for a weekend of drinking, dancing, music-binging and everything in between!

First and foremost, comfort is key. I know that my outfit here may not strike you personally as comfortable but it’s easy to throw on plus it’s loose and flowy–all things I prefer in pieces I have to be wearing for long periods of time. Can I dance in this outfit? Most absolutely I can! My advice to you is to make sure what you wear breathes and moves with you while you’re wild’n out!

Secondly, can you go to the bathroom easily in your outfit of choosing? I’m breaking like a top priority here with my shorteralls pick, but FASHION OVER EVERYTHING, AMIRITE?! lollllz. But seriously, it truly is an important thing to consider when bathroom lines are long, porter-potty stalls are tiny, and you’ve got less than three minutes to pee and dart to the next stage. Also, it is rare for me to rare rings when I know I’m going to be dancing, holding drinks, putting a backpack on and off…it’s just asking for me to lose them!

Let’s not forget: are you wearing comfortable shoes? I’m wearing some pretty basic gladiator sandals so in a nutshell my feet won’t be sweating and I can kick ’em off if I feel like rocking bare feet. I wouldn’t recommend wearing a pair of new shoes you haven’t broken in yet, but if you wear closed-toe shoes at all invest in some comfy socks to prevent blisters.

This is cruicial– are you wearing sweat-proof makeup?? This one is pretty self-explanatory. Here are some of my festival staples: Foundation, setting spray, long-lasting lipstick

Basic pieces can be just as fun and trendy as layering and mixing patterns. Don’t feel like because the ‘norm’ is to be over-the-top that that’s what you have to do! Adding jewelry or fun makeup can get you the vibe you’re going for without breaking the bank or being uncomfortable. Also, there are other ways of showing skin besides wearing a bikini top and jean shorts, like how I did an off the shoulder top here. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all about that life, especially when it’s hot AF outside. But use these opportunities to challenge yourself and your style–wear things you may not otherwise!

Lastly, wear whatever you want to! Dress in costume, wear an oversized tshirt as a dress, wear whatever makes YOU happy. Because in the end, that’s all that matters! 😀

March Favorites

Hey guys!

These are a few makeup & skincare products I’ve been using and loving lately. There are quite a few because I didn’t blog a January or February favorites, but all the same these are products that worked for me and I recommend for you! Enjoy, xxo!

Avène Micellar Lotion $28
First up is this micellar lotion/water. LET ME JUST SAY that I have tried soo many different kinds of micellar lotions and 95% of them have been oily messes. But this one is AMAZING. I use it take off eye makeup mostly, but when I do use it to take off my face makeup it leaves my skin feeling cleansed and soft. $28 is kinda steep, especially for an essential everyday makeup remover, but the bottle is HUGE and you can make it go a long way if you really want to, lol!

belif Aqua Bomb face moisturizer $22-$38
As an oily skin girl, I’ve struggled with the right moisture balance for as long as I can remember. What I love about this moisturizer is that it’s a gel formula, making it super light and airy on the skin. It’s perfect for night and daytime wear and wears nicely under makeup. I honestly cannot say enough good things about this product. This brand has entire product lines for all skin types, so if you’re a dry skin girl, you can check them out too!

PUR Joystick Exfoliating Cleanser $26
I used this every single day for an entire month and I could absolutely tell a difference in the texture of my skin. YOU NEED THIS! I’ve already purchased another one. I’m someone who battles skin issues like texture and blemishes, but I feel like this is gentle enough for you gals who don’t, and simple enough for those of you who don’t feel like committing to an entire skin care regimen. Totally worth purchasing!

boscia Luminizing Black Peel-Off Mask $34
I’ve been loving using this mask once or twice a week when my skin is feeling/looking a little dull. It feels good and cleansing to peel off and doesn’t tug on those peach fuzz hairs, lol. The description says this mask is for pores, oiliness, and blemishes, but is safe for all skin types. It didn’t necessarily make my skin feel less oily or dryer, but definitely felt as though my pores were excavated and I was left with brighter skin.

Covergirl Outlast All-Day Concealer $12
I saw this concealer spoken about by Tati and eleventhgorgeous on YouTube so of course I had to try it out for myself! Although a little runny, once set with powder this concealer does not budge! It doesn’t crease or leave my under-eyes looking cakey. I use the lightest shade–fair– and I find that it makes my under-eyes brighter and I look more awake. It isn’t a full coverage concealer so it’s great for everyday, but for a more full glam look I recommend pairing it with a more full coverage concealer. Some people hate the sponge-tip applicator but I myself am indifferent. I don’t find it messy or unable to be precise.

Merle Norman Dual Action Concealer $17
This concealer was created with a mixture of fairy dust and water from the fountain of youth. It’s my holy grail and I go to no public outing without this on my face. I’m obsessed and I assure you, you need this! I’m use light or medium light neutral. <3

Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder $5
I cannot believe this powder is as inexpensive as it is. It’s not as full coverage as something like the Make Up For Ever pressed powder, but it makes my face look flawless  nonetheless! I use a lighter shade to set my concealer and then a shade close to my skin color to set the foundation on my face. I love this powder!

NYX HD Blush$7
These blushes are perfectly compact, inexpensive, PACKED with pigment, come in 24 colors and wear SO well throughout the day! Unfortunately, several shades are only available online, but at the price they are, I would gladly pay for shipping! Now, these blushes do have shimmer, but are buildable so the shimmer may not transfer to your face depending on how much product you put on your cheeks. Personally, I love blushes with shimmer and I can’t wait to purchase more! 😀

Makeup Revolution Vivid Baked Highlighter $6
My personal fav is the shade peach lights, but I’ve heard amazing things about golden lights as well. You can use these wet or dry. This formula does show skin texture, but the look is gives to the skin is so beautiful I can look past that. I prefer this highlighter over my Nicole Guerrero X ABH palette (IKR?!). Normally I am all for a glittery highlight, but the ABH X NG palette just does not give me the beautiful glow that this $6 Makeup Revolution highlighter does. This formula is not chalky, is easy to blend, and is buildable. Have any of you guys tried this out? I’d love to know!

Tarte Maneater Eyeshadow Palette $29
Honestly the packaging of this palette is so stinkin’ cute I would have purchased this regardless, but the shadows are AMAZING quality! They blend incredibly easily, which is why I recommend this product for even the most novice of eye shadow mavens. I can create a really sultry warm smokey eye with this palette or do a super simple neutral office-approps eye look as well. I’m debating snagging a back up of this palette since I use it so much and it’s limited edition. What do y’all think??

Wet n Wild Gel Lip Liner $3

I bought four of the six shades and have been patting myself on the back since I got them in the mail LOL! I love wearing these alone, without a lipstick overtop. They give such a great color to the lips and feel like I’m wearing almost nothing! I do use them under lip products, but they’re so pigmented on their own I prefer to wear them that way. I’ve tried several different types of lip liners and I just can’t get away from these!

50 Shades of Yellow

Happy Friday Eve my loves! This is my favorite part of the work week, aside from leaving the office on a Friday afternoon looking forward to a weekend full of relaxing and catching up on sleep. Jordan and I had so much fun with this shoot, it was a chilly but beautiful day for honey-colored lace and my favorite-colored lipstick. My exact romper is from Blink! boutique in Baton Rouge. I actually saw it in an insta post and had it shipped from their store in New Orleans. This exact yellow color is available in a few sizes here, as well as a beautiful periwinkle color perfect for spring. Also, I’ve linked some fun yellow pieces at the end of the post. Enjoy and happy weekend! XXXO

Who has two thumbs and wears white after Labor Day and before Easter?! *This girl!*
When warmer weather hits in Louisiana, it’s so hard for me to stay away from white for several more weeks. But where’s the fun in always following the rules? 😉

ALSO, you NEED this denim in your life guys!! Frillz boutique carries Judy Blue denim and the fit is fabulous! I’m not hippy per say, but I’ve got thighs on the thicker side and once I slipped into these jeans I immediately bought a pair of destroyed skinnies as well. Check out Frillz and do yourself a favor and grab these jeans!

Happy weekend, lovies! xoxo

Mardi Gras Formal

Laissez les bon temps rouler, y’all! Mardi Gras season is almost officially over and boy will I miss the delicious king cakes and stellar carnival festivities. Did you know that the reason Mardi Gras balls are hosted is because they were considered the proper form of celebration in early French-reigned New Orleans, long before parades? The ‘carnival’ aspect came from the Spanish governing parties. Today, three hundred years after the first recorded Mardi Gras ball, the tradition continues to be celebrated during the carnival season!

Now, my dress color is not in fact one of the main colors of Mardi Gras (purple for royalty, gold for power and riches, and green for faith, as it is a religious celebration at its origin), but I haven’t been able to stray away from red lately! 😉  Although I borrowed this particular gown, similar ones will be linked at the end of this post! Enjoy, lovies! xoxo

It’s a Good Day to Have a Good Day

Do you ever days when you just know you woke up on the wrong side of the bed that morning? You know–days where you’re sure someone is playing a cruel, cruel joke on you and you’re wondering when on earth you must have crossed paths with so many black cats and broken mirrors. I have. I’ve had exactly those kind of days. Running late, spill your coffee while you’re driving to work, break your heel walking inside the office only to realize you forgot to put on mascara that morning. And the day only continues on downhill. You’re late to your next meeting, your gas light comes on, your boss is being difficult, and you went over on your cell phone data limit *insert grimace emoji here*. It happens! C’est la vie! Life goes on and so must you!

I’m writing this not only as a reminder to myself, but also as a note to you. To share with you guys that ways DO in fact exist to overcome all of that bad juju and end your day on a spectacular note. I’ve heard and tried it all. I’ve pinned every inspirational pinterest quote and forced myself to smile in hopes of lightening my mood. But life cannot always be handled with a forced smile and a “Rain and storm always precede the sunshine and rainbows”- esque quote. So here are 5 easy steps to follow when you are having a God-awful day!

1. Map out the rest of your day
If you spent the entire morning in a rush and hail storm of unfortunate circumstance, take a few minutes to catch up to the world around you. Just because your morning didn’t go according to plan doesn’t mean the rest of your day has to follow suit! Take 5 simple minutes to take a deep breath and rework the rest of your day’s schedule. Taking the few minutes to regroup will allow for less rushing and prevent any more playing catch up. It can show you there is still an opportunity to have a productive and decent day. It will make you feel more focused and less panicked that all of sudden the day’s meetings/events/plans are off and seem unattainable.

2. Put on your “Go get ’em” playlist
I’ve read a million times over that smiling when you’re sad or unhappy will somehow trick you and your brain into being in a better mood. Well, this little bit left me feeling absolutely ridiculous smiling when it was the last thing I could possibly fathom. (LOL I’m entirely too dramatic.) Instead, I found playing some of my favorite happy music really does the trick. It helps me refocus and undoubtedly boosts my mood! Music is wonderfully therapeutic. Here are a few on my mood-booster playlist!

  • “Up, Up, Up”–Rose Falcon
  • “Girls”–The 1975
  • “Dog Days Are Over”–Florence + The Machine
  • “Who Knows”–BEGINNERS
  • “You’re Not Stubborn”–Two Door Cinema Club
  • “Punching in a Dream”–Naked & Famous
  • “Dimelo”–Snakehips
  • “High You Are (Branchez Remix)”–What So Not

3. Plan something to look forward to
This one is pretty self-explanatory, and one of the easiest ways I shake off the bad-day-sludge. I plan a girls’ night with margaritas or text my boyfriend and make dinner plans. I’ll make it a point to get extra gummy bears next time I grab fro-yo or I’ll purchase something online (because who doesn’t love mail?!). Why not take a relaxing bubble bath that night with a face mask on instead of hopping in and out of the shower or opt for a glass of wine with dinner? ORRR  I love calling my out-of-town friends and catching up with them over a lengthy phone call. Little things, y’all!

4. Call a friend and vent
I know. We are all adults and we should be able to handle our own adult problems. Well there’s no shame in needing to talk it out first! Some people aren’t ones who enjoy phone calls, but texting my emotions doesn’t always cut it for me personally. I have a few close girlfriends who are always there for me with an open ear and a fresh perspective. Sometimes, that’s all you need is someone to put things into perspective for you. I don’t mean people who say, “Well, it could always be worse Emily,” or “There are kids starving in Africa right now and you’re complaining about having a hectic day!” Yes, people! I am complaining about being overwhelmed and looking for a way to get my head back above water because those kids suffering in Africa don’t make me feel any less stressed in this moment. Call it selfish or spoiled, but I call it realistic.
I’m talking about those people who are going to be honest with me; who will tell me when I’ve bitten off more than I can chew or who will tell me I’m perfectly capable of chewing all which I’ve bitten off. Like I said, a fresh perspective can work wonders for the mind of the preoccupied.

5. Don your favorite lipstick and pour yourself another cup of coffee
My coworker Courtney said it best. “When all else fails, apply lipstick.” I don’t know if I’ve ever related to anything more than that statement, hahah. Lipstick can’t fix everything, but paired with a double shot of espresso it can come pretty close. 😉

I hope these few tidbits help you overcome those nasty Monday blues or midweek slump!

Cheers, lovies! xoxo
